System Types

Audio-Only Intercom Systems

Audio intercoms provide two-way voice communication between the door station (outside) and one or more internal units (inside). A visitor presses a call button at the door station, and the resident or receptionist answers from their indoor unit and releases the door via a strike or magnetic lock. Audio-only systems are the most economical option and are suitable for single-door access points where visual verification is less critical — side gates, service entrances, and residential back doors.

Video Door Entry Systems

Video door entry adds a camera at the door station, displaying a live image of the visitor on the indoor monitor before and during the call. This is the standard for residential apartments, main building entrances, and corporate reception areas where visual identity verification is important. Video door entry systems in Kenya are available in analogue (traditional) and IP (network-based) formats:

• Analogue (2-wire or 4-wire) systems — Use dedicated cable between the door station and monitors. Simpler to install, lower cost, and well-suited to installations with a fixed number of units and a straightforward topology. Leading brands include Comelit, Urmet, and Elvox.
• IP video door entry systems — Door stations and monitors connect over a standard IP network (or dedicated PoE switch). Each device has an IP address and can be accessed from any networked device — including smartphones, tablets, and PCs. IP systems offer the most flexibility: a single door station can call multiple internal devices simultaneously, video can be recorded to an NVR or cloud, and the system integrates natively with access control and CCTV platforms. They are the preferred solution for new multi-storey developments, co-working spaces, and corporate buildings.

Apartment Block Multi-Tenant Systems

Residential apartment blocks require a system where visitors can call individual apartments from a shared main entrance panel. In a traditional analogue system, this is achieved using a series of numbered call buttons on a surface-mounted or flush-mounted door panel — one per apartment. In IP systems, residents can answer calls on their smartphones using a mobile app, even when they are away from home. The building manager has a master station that can monitor and communicate with all apartments and override door releases.

Gate Intercom & Video Systems

For gated compounds, residential estates, and industrial facilities with vehicle entry gates, we install weather-rated outdoor stations designed for exposed outdoor use — IP65 or higher protection against Kenya's dust and heavy rain.
