Alarm Systems
Advanced intruder alarm systems with instant alerts and 24-hour monitoring to keep your premises safe.

An intruder alarm system is your property's first active line of defence. While cameras observe and record, a well-designed alarm system responds — triggering sirens, sending instant notifications to your phone, and alerting a monitoring centre before a threat escalates. Lance Security designs and installs alarm systems for homes, offices, retail premises, and industrial sites throughout Kenya, matching the right technology to your risk profile and budget.
Types of Alarm Systems
No two properties are alike, which is why we offer three categories of alarm technology:
- Wired alarm systems — Sensors and devices are connected to the control panel through dedicated cabling. Wired systems are extremely reliable, immune to wireless interference, and ideal for new-build properties or major renovations where cables can be concealed during construction. They are a popular choice for commercial offices and warehouses where long cable runs are practical.
- Wireless alarm systems — Sensors communicate with the panel over encrypted radio frequencies, eliminating the need for cabling. Wireless systems are quick to install, easy to expand, and perfect for retrofitting into occupied homes and heritage buildings where running cables would be disruptive or impractical.
- Hybrid alarm systems — Combine wired zones with wireless expansion modules, giving you the reliability of hard-wired connections for critical zones and the flexibility of wireless devices wherever cabling is difficult. Hybrid panels are the most versatile option and allow you to grow the system over time.
Core Components of an Alarm System
Control Panel
The brain of the system. The control panel receives signals from every sensor, processes alarm events, and communicates with the monitoring centre. We install panels from Ajax and Paradox — two brands trusted worldwide for their build quality, encryption standards, and software ecosystems. Ajax panels communicate over both Wi-Fi and cellular (dual-SIM) to ensure alerts reach you even if one network goes down, a critical consideration in Kenya where internet outages can occur.
Sensors and Detectors
- PIR motion detectors — Detect body heat and movement inside rooms, corridors, and open-plan spaces. Pet-immune models are available for homes with dogs or cats.
- Door and window contacts (magnetic reed switches) — Trigger instantly the moment a door or window is opened, whether the alarm is set to full or partial (night) mode.
- Glass-break detectors — Listen for the specific acoustic frequency of shattering glass, providing a fast response to forced entry through windows.
- Vibration (shock) sensors — Detect drilling, hammering, or forced prying on walls, safes, and ATM enclosures.
- Smoke and heat detectors — Many modern panels accept fire detection zones, giving you intrusion and fire protection from a single control panel.
Sirens and Strobes
Indoor sirens produce a piercing tone that disorients intruders and alerts occupants. Outdoor sirens with flashing strobes draw attention from neighbours and passers-by. We install tamper-proof housings to prevent intruders from silencing the siren.
Keypads and Arming Devices
Keypads are placed at entry and exit points for convenient arming and disarming. We also offer key fobs, proximity tags, and smartphone-based arming through the Ajax or Paradox apps, so you never have to fumble with codes at the door.
Monitoring Options
An alarm is only effective if someone acts on it. We offer several monitoring tiers:
- Self-monitoring — You receive push notifications, SMS, and email alerts directly on your phone. Suitable for budget-conscious homeowners who want awareness without monthly fees.
- Professional 24/7 monitoring — Alarm signals are routed to a licensed monitoring centre staffed around the clock. Operators verify the alarm and dispatch a response team or notify the police on your behalf.
- Integrated CCTV verification — When an alarm triggers, the monitoring centre pulls up the nearest CCTV camera feed to visually confirm the intrusion, dramatically reducing false-alarm dispatches and speeding up the response.
Response Protocols
When a verified alarm event occurs, the response follows a structured protocol: the monitoring centre contacts the keyholder, dispatches an armed response unit, and — where a confirmed break-in is established — liaises with Kenya Police. The entire chain from sensor activation to response dispatch typically takes under 60 seconds with a professionally monitored system.
Residential vs Commercial Applications
For home security, we design systems around family routines — night mode that protects the perimeter while you move freely indoors, panic buttons in bedrooms, and child-lock features on keypads. For commercial premises, we configure staff access codes with unique PINs for audit trails, opening/closing schedules that remind managers to arm the system, and zone partitioning so a warehouse can be armed while the office remains disarmed during working hours.
Integration with Other Security Systems
A standalone alarm is good; an integrated system is far better. We routinely connect alarm panels with CCTV, access control, and electric fence energisers so that a single event — such as a fence breach — triggers camera recording, sounds the alarm, locks access points, and sends a notification simultaneously. This layered approach eliminates the gaps that intruders exploit.
