How GPS Vehicle Tracking Works

A compact GPS tracking device installed in the vehicle receives signals from the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite constellation and calculates the vehicle's position to within 3–10 metres. This position, along with speed, heading, ignition status, and additional sensor data, is transmitted via the cellular data network (Safaricom, Airtel, or Telkom) to the tracking server at regular intervals — typically every 10 to 60 seconds depending on the platform configuration.
